Beginner Squad

This squad acts as a beginner squad, introducing sessions that require greater endurance and skill to complete. Swimmers in this squad are now encouraged to begin competing at club level and at targeted club meets.

8 to 10 years (also dependent on ability)

Minimum Level in Learn To Swim program : 9

Conducted once a month

Primary Focus
  • 50m strength and speed in all strokes
  • Freestyle technique – no over-rotation in the body and a balanced breathing position
  • Backstroke technique – horizontal body position, consistent kick and high stroke rate
  • Breaststroke technique – effective propulsion from the kick and an efficient glide
  • Butterfly technique – a strong kick, arms clearing the water and efficient timing
  • Further develop underwater work
  • Continue to develop kick strength
