Squad Age Description Key Objectives Skills Development Equipment
White 6-9 A fun, skills based introduction to squad training Provides opportunities for children in Levels 5-7 to increase their fitness, enhance their technique and enjoy swimming as a sport. We encourage the white squad to participate in Club Swims. Aim to swim 25-50m in Freestyle, Breaststroke and Backstroke and an introduction to butterfly. Swim twice per week, 45 minutes sessions. Green 8-12 A fitness and skills based squad for those swimmers who are choosing swimming as one of their sports The coaches work with swimmers to identify individual goals, whether they be swimming or fitness. Swimmers should participate in Club Swims and are encouraged to compete in Swimming WA events. Aim to swim 50-100m in all strokes with sound technique. They will be able to complete a 60 minute session. Sessions will include specific drills and designated times. Swim up to 3 times per week. Junior Development 9-11 For swimmers who want to be successful at a school and/or state level Aimed at swimmers looking at new challenges and want to be successful at a school and/or state level. Encouraged to participate in Club and State competitions. Aim to have a good understanding in all 4 strokes and the Individual Medley. Develop good start, turn and finishing techniques. Work on a designated time and using the clock. They should swim 3 – 4 times (duration 60 min) per week. Junior States 10-14 For swimmers competing at a junior state level Aimed at swimmers with state times looking for a more competitive squad. Encouraged to participate in Club and State competitions. Swimmers should be competent in all 4 strokes and individual medley. Further develop start, turn and finishing techniques and work off the time clock. They should swim 4-5 x 90 min sessions per week, depending on age. Front snorkel, kick board, goggles, fins, pull buoy, paddles kit bag, Club cap, 2Ltr water bottle
State Age / National Development 13+ For teenagers who want to compete at State Age championships or progress to the National Age Group, or older students wanting to keep swimming whilst maintaining their commitment to their studies. Designed to enhance the skills, strength and fitness of the developing athlete. This squad is for teenagers with a basic mastery of all swimming strokes. Athletes may use this squad to prepare for SWA swimming comps or to maintain swimming skills and fitness in a competitive and enjoyable environment. Encouraged to compete in Swimming WA and State competitions. Good knowledge and practice of all strokes is essential for this squad. Athletes will focus on accountability and awareness of their technique, overall body strength, and an increase in cardiovascular fitness. Aim to swim 5-6 sessions per week (1.5 – 2 hours) Front snorkel, kick board, goggles, fins, pull buoy, paddles, kit bag, Club cap, 2Ltr water bottle
National Age Group 13+ An elite squad aiming at National times. This squad is for high performing teenagers and younger adults who wish to train in a highly competitive environment. Athletes are expected to compete at all targeted SWA events along with striving to compete at the SAL National championships. This squad is a group who desire excellence in their swimming. As this is an elite level squad, athletes will be expected to have solid mastery of swimming skills, strength and fitness. Attendance of 6-9 sessions per week is required. Participate in Club Meets and encouraged to compete in Swimming WA, State, Interstate and National competitions. Adult / Fitness 18+ For adult members to continue to experience the benefits of a structured swim program Sessions will include competitive training techniques to allow members to maintain health and fitness whilst giving the opportunity to prepare for Masters and OWS events (for those who wish to do so). Members are encouraged to engage in club activities in order to enjoy the social aspects of a swimming club and to provide an example to our younger generations of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle in adulthood.
